Long time Lloyd Harbor resident, successful businesswoman and former New York State Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Bernadette Castro has established a new challenge grant program to benefit Huntington Harbor Lighthouse. The $2,000 challenge/match is designed to start a new fundraising program for Huntington Harbor Lighthouse
The Beacon Society is a new initiative that seeks 20 additional people and/or businesses to each issue a $2,000 challenge to friends, neighbors and the community. Here is how it works: You pledge a $2000 donation to match your team of 4 others who pledge $500 each. It’s that simple. Each team essentially pledges $4000.
Designed to raise $80,000 within the next 10 months, the Beacon Society will help fund Huntington Harbor Lighthouse's $1.5 million Foundation for the Future capital campaign for critical repairs to the Lighthouse's foundation and to the historic structure's watertight integrity.
Ms. Castro states, “The Huntington Harbor Lighthouse is not only a precious historic feature for our entire region, but for me personally, it lifts my spirits each time I see her. I am blessed to be able to raise my first cup of coffee to the lady in the harbor, and then to see her light at dusk is equally beautiful. Let anyone who appreciates this amazing man-made star in our view join in this challenge effort to raise funds.”
What a gift and inspiration the Lighthouse has been to the many residents in our harbor villages and the boaters who visit the area all season long. Let’s maintain this precious piece of the community for generations to come.
As added inspiration to be among the Founders of the Beacon Society all donors to the challenge grant program will be invited to a cocktail party, featuring a raw seafood bar, and a tour of the historic home known as Panfield, the home of Bernadette Castro and Dr. Peter Guida which overlooks the Huntington Lighthouse next July.
In addition there will be a special private tour of the Lighthouse to celebrate the success of this special effort to save our treasured community asset.
